Working Equitation (WE) blends precision, agility, and partnership—perfect for Iberian horses. Most shows include Dressage, Ease of Handling (EOH), Speed, and sometimes Cattle.
Key obstacles: the garrocha (pole), gate, bridge, figure-eight between barrels, sidepass over pole, bell corridor, and the slalom. In EOH, judges reward correctness and calm accuracy; in Speed, time rules—faults add seconds.
Weekly plan:
• Day 1—Flatwork basics: rhythm, prompt transitions, and square halts.
• Day 2—EOH patterns at walk/trot; practice straight approaches and quiet hands.
• Day 3—Cavaletti + lateral work (shoulder-in, leg-yield) to sharpen bend.
• Day 4—Speed schooling: short courses at 70–80% to maintain relaxation.
• Day 5—Mental day: hand-walk through obstacles and reward curiosity.
Pro tip: teach a “target” halt—point your body to the next obstacle before you go. It saves seconds and keeps lines tidy.
